ENDA KELLY,
Sir, - I find it very difficult to have sympathy for John B. McMahon (February 23rd), who complains of being denied a postal vote. As he freely admits, he lives in the Canary Islands, and is therefore unaffected by the results of polls in Ireland, be they referendums or general elections.
What I do find objectionable is that foreign nationals can live their whole lives in Ireland, work, pay taxes and play a full part in Irish society, and be denied the right to chose their public representatives.
I think Mr McMahon should be asking the Spanish government why he is disenfranchised by the EU state within which he is resident. - Yours, etc.,

Sir, - As an emigrant, I would oppose the granting to myself of a vote in an Irish general election, on the corollary of "no taxation without representation". - Yours, etc.,
