A chara, – Ted O'Keeffe (Letters, April 2nd) argues that the importance of water metering has been clearly illustrated by the 46,000 tonnes of daily leaks announced this week. I disagree.
What didn’t fit into the Government narrative this week is that the annual cost to Irish Water of these domestic leaks is less than €20 million so it is hard to use this as a justification for an investment of almost €600 million in water meters and fixing leaks.
As the Irish Water spokesperson stated “The vast majority [of leakages] is no doubt on the supply side”. I would humbly suggest that our money would have been better invested there. – Is mise, NIALL TUATHAIL The Crescent, Galway.
