Sir, – The article by Phillip Quinlan "Afghanistan shows how the West overestimates the appeal of its values" (Opinion & Analysis, August 18th) verified all that I have ascertained over the years, in particular the sheer arrogance of the "West".
As we know, empires come and go, and that of the mainly Anglo-Saxon “West” will go the same way as all the others. That gap, it seems likely, will be filled by the rising power of China.
The future of the world will be more “East” than “West”, it seems. – Yours, etc,
