Shane Moynihan (41), a member of South Dublin County Council since 2019, topped the poll in the Palmerstown-Fonthill area in June’s local elections.
He ran in the 2019 Dublin Mid-West by-election, caused by the departure of Fine Gael’s Frances Fitzgerald to the European Parliament, in which Sinn Féin’s Mark Ward won the seat.
He is a former secretary of his local GAA club, serves on a number of school boards and is a director of ACE Enterprise Park in Clondalkin. His main priorities as TD will be public transport – a “definite concern” in Lucan he says, services for disabled children and school places.
A Lucan native he was educated in St Kevin’s Community College and Coláiste Chilliain in Clondalkin. He studied economics and politics in Trinity College, and has a Phd in Political Science, also from Trinity.
He lives in Lucan with his wife Teresa and three sons, aged 5, 3 and three months.
