Tánaiste Simon Harris will meet with US secretary of commerce Howard Lutnick in Washington DC, on Thursday, where he will also officially open Ireland’s new embassy to the United States.
The new office is located at the significant address of 1700 Pennsylvania Avenue, next to the White House.
Mr Harris said that he hopes his meeting with Mr Lutnick will revolve around further discussions on how both countries can protect “our mutually beneficial economic relationship”.
“We are now the fifth largest source of foreign direct investment in America,” he said in New York on Wednesday.

“Across every region of the union, Irish companies have created 200,000 American jobs,” he said in announcing a report which maps Ireland’s economic influence across the States.
The report also charts the trade flow between the two countries, a subject that has been under the scrutiny of the Trump administration, and Mr Lutnick specifically, during their global tariff strategy.
The Tánaiste will be welcomed to Washington by Ireland’s Ambassador to the United States, Geraldine Byrne Nason.
The opening of the new embassy building represents the culmination of a four year project.
Mr Harris will tell the gathering at Thursday’s reception that it is a physical manifestation of the Global Ireland strategy to have a flagship office reflecting the historical depths and on-going economic relationship between both countries.
