Dave McNeilly - Caddie to European Tour player Niclas Fasth
Earliest golfing memory?
Playing with a cut-down hickory shafted one-iron (age 5).
First victory?
Greenisland Juveniles (age 10).
First time to break 90?
Age 7.
Last bit of equipment?
Callaway FT3 driver.
Last time you took a cart and why?
Two years ago on a "hicksville", off-the-beaten-track course in south Georgia. The green fees were $12 and for an extra $5 you got a cart. It was 90 degrees, so between two of us it was the best $2.50 we ever spent.
Last time you muttered an obscenity on a course and why?
Probably while handing over the money to whoever I was playing against that day.
Which of the majors would you like to attend and why?
The Masters. Combination of beauty and atmosphere.
Ideal fourball: who and where?
Jason Zuback, the four-time world long-driving champion; George Best, my all-time sporting hero, and my father, just to see what he would make of it all.
It would be around Greenisland, just to see how Zuback would "re-arrange" the course and how he would handle the 96-yard "Lime Kiln".
One last round on earth: where would it be?
Royal Portrush on a warm August evening.
Ralph Lauren or Lyle & Scott?
No doubt about it . . . either!
Is the Titleist ProV1 worth the extra expense?
It depends on the calibre of golfer; yes, if you are a good player.
Best golf club food. Where?
I had the best wild salmon at Baltray Golf Club, so good that it's put me off eating it anywhere else.
140 yards out from green. Flat calm. What's in your hand?
If I am dormie 5up, a high draw with a wedge, otherwise just the usual poke with a six.
Favourite club in times of trouble?
Has to be a wedge; I have never found a driver or a putter of any use from knee-high rough.
Parkland or links?
Links.
Must see golfing holiday destination?
The sand-belt courses around Melbourne, Australia.
Hidden gem?
Cruit Island, Donegal.
One Mulligan in life?
My next tee shot.
