MEN'S HOCKEY:All eyes will be on the result of Glenanne's fourth round Irish Senior Cup match against Ulster's Annadale tomorrow in Tallaght. The Glens are hoping for some sort of positive backlash from last weekend, where they went down in the league to Three Rock Rovers and Pembroke on consecutive days, their normally reliable set-pieces letting them down.
But with the heavyweights Annadale arriving with a reputation and Glenanne wanting to uphold theirs, all the other sides will take comfort from the fact one of the cup contenders is about to depart the stage.
Annadale will be without their international Iain Lewers, now playing his hockey in the Netherlands. Glenanne will be missing John Goulding, who is abroad.
Annadale's corner striker, Ian Hamilton, has been potting from the set-piece, so Glenanne will need to be cautious.
Last time they met, in last year's cup final, the Dublin side emerged winners, denying Annadale their first national trophy.
There are a number of all-Dublin clashes, and that between Three Rock Rovers and Trinity should go the home side's way.
It's a rivalry that usually carries friendly overtones, given the number of players who migrate to the mountains after graduation from College Park. But Rovers did well last weekend, which will stand to them.
Monkstown should prevail over the men from the fishing village of Kilkeel, while Pembroke could again get to double figures against struggling Bray, as they did last time out.
At the Royal College of Surgeons' grounds at Santry, Cork Harlequins, another side with eyes on the trophy, are likely to be given a tough afternoon by St Brendan's Phoenix Park. But the 2006 champions should have the quality to go through.
YMCA, given their poor league form, would cause significant surprise were they to beat Cookstown at Claremont Road, while Lisnagarvey are also likely winners against Fingal, however stout the resistance.
