Canadian Stephen Ames rose 37 places to 27th in the world rankings issued today after his win at the Players Championship at Sawgrass in Florida.

Ames registered a record-equalling six-shot victory over South African Retief Goosen at the tournament dubbed the unofficial fifth major.

Jean Van de Velde of France climbed from 295th to 135th in the rankings after securing his second European Tour title at the Madeira Island Open.

In the only change in the top 10, Jim Furyk moves up one position to seventh, swapping places with fellow American David Toms.
