Asian Maze will follow in the footsteps of the legendary Dawn Run in Paris tomorrow as she tries to win the Grade Two Prix la Barka at Auteuil.
Dawn Run won the race 22 years ago before going on to land the French Champion Hurdle. Asian Maze, trained by Paddy Mullins's son Tom, could follow the same route if putting in a good display this weekend. "She travelled over Wednesday and everything is 100 per cent. The ground is softer than I'd like but it should be okay. We will see how it goes. The Champion Hurdle is a couple of furlongs extra which might put us off," Mullins said yesterday.
Dawn Run, the only horse ever to complete the Champion Hurdle-Gold Cup double at Cheltenham, was later killed in a fall at Auteuil in 1986.
