Darren Fichardt held off a tremendous final-round charge from Ulrich van den Berg to win the Sun City Dimension Data Pro-Am by two strokes at the Gary Player Country Club yesterday.
Fichardt and Van Den Berg challenged for the title in a final round which both led at various stages.
They were tied for the lead after both dropped shots at the par four 14th. Van Den Berg went on to bogey the 17th as well, but Fichardt birdied the last for victory on 10-under-par 278 after a final round of 68.
Van Den Berg and Nick Price shared second place on eight under with respective final rounds of 69 and 68.
Ciarán McMonagle and Colm Moriarty finished well down the field. McMonagle shot a final round of 72 for 297 while Moriarty disappointed with an 80 for 304.
Meanwhile, in the New South Wales Amateur Championship in Australia, the Crowe brothers, Stephen and Darren, share third place on 137 at the halfway mark over the St Michael's and Moore Park Golf Clubs.
Stephen Crowe added a seven-under-par 65, while Darren shot 68 to trail leader Kevin Chun (New Zealand) by two shots.Michael McGeady also made the cut after rounds of 73 and 68 for 141, but Brian McElhinney (80 70) and Noel Fox (77, 74) missed out.
