News: David Brady returned to Mayo's colours for the first time in four months as they defeated Kildare 0-18 to 0-12 in a challenge game to mark the opening of a pitch in Old Grange, St Laurence's, yesterday.
The Ballina Stephenites clubman had been out of action with a leg injury since his county's clash with Donegal in the league at Ballybofey but was introduced in the second half by manager John O'Mahony.
Mayo also experimented in the full-back position by placing Billy Joe Padden on the edge of the square in the second half to quell the troublesome Adrian Kelly.
Kildare's injury crisis in midfield seemed to worsen when Ronan Sweeney cried off before the game after cutting his face in training. Kildare are already without Dermot Earley (broken metatarsal), Killian Brennan (Achilles rupture), Darryl Flynn (ankle) and Thomas O'Connor (cruciate ligament) for the foreseeable future.
Kildare fielded a second-string side but John Crofton will be pleased with the first-half promise of two players returning from injury - Ross Glavin at midfield and Adrian Kelly up front.
But in defence they were routed in the second half by a Mayo team in the middle of an intensive training weekend.
Meanwhile, Tyrone's Martin Penrose is a major injury doubt for their Ulster championship clash with Fermanagh on May 20th after suffering a knee injury in a club game yesterday.
Penrose was stretchered off midway through the second half of Aghyaran's Tyrone championship clash with Moy at Fintona. But Seán Cavanagh, making his return from a foot injury, came through the game without ill-effects, scoring two points in Moy's 0-9 to 0-7 win.
