Bray fail to trouble Derry this time

Derry City 3 Bray Wanderers 0:Bray Wanderers have traditionally been one of Derry City's most troublesome teams, but that was far from the case at the Brandywell last night when John Robertson's team recorded their third consecutive - and relatively easy - victory.

Derry's first-half dominance was rewarded in the 16th minute when, from a Kevin Deery corner kick, defender Ken Oman back- flicked the ball on from the near post and Peter Hutton reacted the quickest to fire a close-range header into the net past goalkeeper Chris O'Connor.

Earlier Derry goalkeeper Pat Jennings had to be at his best to push Alan Cawley's long-range direct free-kick away to safety.

Deery almost doubled the lead in the 28th minute but his right-foot shot from outside the box flew narrowly wide.

Both teams came close to scoring early in the second half. Deery hammered a Gareth McGlynn cross from the right off O'Connor's right-hand upright in the 49th minute and two minutes later Ronan Ivory's outswinging cross from the right was headed off the Derry City crossbar by Onmubiko.

Derry's pressure paid off in the 57th minute when striker Kevin McHugh headed Killian Brennan's left wing cross into the net.

The home side sealed the win in the 65th minute when centre forward Sammy Morrow bustled his way into the Bray penalty area before lobbing the ball over the stranded O'Connor.
