Brosnan moves into midfield

Eoin Brosnan will fill one of the midfield positions for Kerry in Sunday's National Football League final at Croke Park

Eoin Brosnan will fill one of the midfield positions for Kerry in Sunday's National Football League final at Croke Park. With regular choice Darragh Ó Sé suspended, Brosnan will partner William Kirby in one of several alterations from the semi-final team that beat Limerick.

Eamonn Fitzmaurice returns from suspension to fill the centre back position, with Seamus Moynihan moving back out to the left wing as a result. Aidan O'Mahony, who started on the wing the last day, drops into left corner back in preference to Marc Ó Sé.

With Brosnan moving from centre forward to midfield, the number 11 jersey will not be allocated until closer to throw-in. Colm Cooper has been passed fit to play at right corner forward. Declan O'Sullivan - injured in the Limerick game - remains a concern and the full forward place goes to Johnny Crowley.

As expected opponents Galway won't finalise a team until just prior to Sunday's throw-in, but last night manager John O'Mahony seemed a little more hopeful that his star forward Padhraic Joyce would be fit be play. "He didn't train with us on Tuesday night, and the bruising around the toe is still quite severe. The important thing is that nothing was broken so we'll just have to wait and see at this stage. And we're not sure yet of the situation with Matthew Clancy and Michael Meehan, who are in the middle of exams at the moment."

Offaly have named an unchanged team for their division two final against Down.

In hurling, meanwhile, Meath's refusal to fulfil Sunday's rescheduled division two game against Down at Portaferry has left the county board facing a potentially severe penalty. A brief statement from Croke Park yesterday confirmed that Meath have withdrawn from the fixture because of their inability to field a team, and as a result the two points automatically go to Down - enough to secure their place in the division two final against Westmeath on May 9th.
