Down SFC Final: Mayobridge 1-10, Burren 0-4 Former Down team-mates Mickey Linden and James McCartan were opposing managers in Newcastle yesterday. Burren manager McCartan will rue his side's two missed penalties, the first in the 15th minute when goalkeeper Seán Featherstone kept out James McGovern's effort.
Burren failed to score in the first half and trailed 0-0 to 1-8 at the break. Benny Coulter was to the fore as Mayobridge hit two points in the opening two minutes, and also scored the only goal in the 24th minute.
The second penalty miss was more significant. Burren rallied as PJ McAlinden, Eamonn McGovern and Kevin McGivern hit three points before substitute Eoin McCartan was tumbled in the square but his spot-kick was again saved by Featherstone, at the expense of a pointed 45.
