FAI Cup second round replays: Kildare County 0 Bray Wanderers 1: Kildare's poor home form continued as Paul Caffrey took full advantage of a slip by Kildare County left back Barry Clancy in the 76th minute to put last season's beaten semi-finalists into the last 16 last night at Station Road last night.
There seemed little danger when Robbie Doyle played a crossfield pass but Clancy took his time in getting the ball under control and Caffrey nipped in to dispossess him and give Brendan Kennedy no chance in the Kildare goal.
Bray manager Tony McGuirk made two changes to the team that had grabbed a late equaliser in the first game with Robbie Doyle and Kieran O'Brien coming in for David Tyrell and Eamon Zayed. Kildare stuck to the same starting 11 with David O'Meara still missing through injury.
In a very closely contested first half, Kildare had the best opportunity after just six minutes. Stephen Cooling's clever pass split the Bray defence but Darren McKenna toe-poked just wide under pressure from Philip Keogh.
In what was generally a poor game, chances were few and far between but the home side came close to breaking the deadlock after 56 minutes.
After John Reilly had been fouled, Alan Mulcahy swung a pinpoint cross into the Bray box and McKenna rose highest but his header thumped off the crossbar and bounced away to safety.
The second half was a livelier affair and Kennedy had to be quickly off his line early on to save at the feet of Philip Keogh after Doyle had flicked on Kieran O'Brien's through ball.
McKenna then hit the crossbar as Kildare tried to impose themselves on the game but the game looked destined for extra-time until Caffrey struck.
