Captain's day with a difference

In the bean-counting hierarchy of the IT, this executive is probably way too high to be concerned about such trivial matters as my expenses. Still, in the belief that one can't be too careful, I have made a special effort to reflect accurately his account of last Saturday's captain's prize at Tara Glen. It seems to have been a very interesting day, not least for having produced two holes in one - at the same hole. On the 127-yard seventh, Terry Hardiman, a past captain of the club, and Kevin Henry both found the target with nine-iron shots.

Then there was the overall result in which two nine-handicappers filled the leading places, with a 36-hole score of 135 to 138. But given the other exploits on the day in question, there had to be more to it than that. And there was: Paul Gavin beat his father, Tom, for Neil Condren's prize.
