Champions in control

DERRY CITY...0 SHELBOURNE..

DERRY CITY...0 SHELBOURNE...2: The reigning champions produced an excellent performance to claim victory over Derry City on Saturday night.

Pat Fenlon's men owned the ball for lengthy periods butthe home defence kept strikers Jason Byrne and Glen Fitzpatrick at bay until the latter stages.

It was a goalkeeping blunder which helped the visitors on their way to their second win of the season. In the 81st minute, Ollie Cahill floated the ball into the danger area and new Derry keeper Ciarán Kelly failed to make contact and Jason Byrne climbed highest to head the ball home.

With Derry forcing extra players forward for the final nine minutes, Shelbourne struck on the break four minutes later. Jason Byrne played a superb crossfield pass to find Fitzpatrick and when he delivered the ball to the edge of the penalty area, Stuart Byrne curled it home.
