RUUD GULLIT still has his sights fixed on a date at Wembley in May and an FA Cup winners medal. But the Dutch superstar and his Chelsea team mates were given a grilling at Blundell Park last night - and are somewhat lucky to still be in the competition.

Grimsby, struggling in the Endsleigh League first division after 11 matches without a victory, adopted a shoot on sight policy and it so nearly paid dividends. The same tactic paid off handsomely last week when Chelsea's Premiership neighbours West Ham were defeated 3-0 in the fourth round.

Last night, however, Grimsby had to be content with gaining a replay at Stamford Bridge next Wednesday. The prize for the winners is a home tie in the quarter finals against either Huddersfield or Wimbledon.

Gullit had plenty of possession but little support on a night when Chelsea had to defend in depth. Grimsby so nearly wrapped the match up in the last 10 minutes when both Gary Childs and John McDermott came close to scoring.

Chelsea survived another scare when McDermott raced into space only to fire a shot across the face of the goal.
