Cork City 2 Dungannon Swifts 1:Dungannon Swifts faced an impossible task when they travelled to Turner's Cross needing to win by seven goals to deny Cork City a place in the Setanta Sports Cup semi-final. Cork dominated the game despite playing several reserve-team players.

Cork dominated the opening half to lead by two goals at half-time. The Swifts approached the game with a defensive line-up, five in midfield and Mark McAllister their only striker.

They won plenty of possession but never troubled the Cork defence, and it was Cork who carried the greater threat up front.

Their two goals were headers, Colin O'Brien heading in from a corner by Ray Lally in the fourth minute and Denis Behan converting a cross by Cillian Lordan in the 35th minute.

Dungannon were, perhaps, experimenting ahead of their Irish Cup final on May 5th and in the second half adopted a more attacking formation. They pulled a goal back in the 64th minute when Shane McCabe drove a free from 25 yards through the Cork wall of defenders.

Dungannon goalkeeper David Wells was shown the red card when he was unluckily adjudged to have handled the ball outside the penalty area in the 82nd minute. Substitute goalkeeper Dwayne Nelson was not extended as the game petered out to a tame ending.
