Deportivo La Coruna 1 Juventus 0: A sweet strike from Albert Luque earned Deportivo Coruna a home win over Juventus in the opening leg of their Champions League tie last night.
Deportivo, eliminated by Juventus in the second group phase of last season's competition, got the only goal seven minutes before half-time. Lilian Thuram had plenty of time to clear a Lionel Scaloni cross from the right but the French defender's header went straight up in the air and fell for Luque to sweep the ball past Gianluigi Buffon with a low volley.
Deportivo's determined midfield denied Juventus time on the ball and the Italians created just one clear chance in the first half, Alessandro Del Piero failing to beat Jose Molina when put clean through in the 31st minute.
A flick header from Antonio Conte went close after 62 minutes and Fabrizio Miccoli blasted over from a good position but there were no other clear opportunities for last season's beaten finalists in a second half controlled by the Spaniards.
