Mary Immaculate 2-14 GMIT 1-8:Mary Immaculate manager Eamonn Cregan is hoping to have Galway and St Thomas' Conor Cooney back in the fold for their Fitzgibbon Cup quarter-final against DIT after goals from Luke O'Farrell and William Hickey saw them past GMIT at Carnmore yesterday.
“You see the team we have there and Conor Cooney would make a huge difference to us. We are sorry that he cannot play with us, but maybe after they win next Saturday we’ll get him for the next match.
“He can play alright but he has been asked by his club manager to stand aside and he has done that. But it would be a pity for Conor to leave Mary I having not played Fitzgibbon,” said Cregan, whose side face an away quarter-final after UCC’s win.
An early goal from Aidan Lynch had given GMIT the lead, but six points in a row from Mary Immaculate before the break and the loss of their star man Tadhg Haran in the 36th minute ended any hopes of a GMIT win.
