Kenny Cunningham faces a possible English FA hearing in the wake of an incident alleged to have taken place in the dressing-room tunnel after Chelsea's 3-1 win over Wimbledon last Saturday.
Together with Mick Harford and the Chelsea captain, Dennis Wise, Cunningham may be asked for his version of the post-match events which were witnessed by the match referee, Peter Jones.
The Republic of Ireland defender, acknowledged as one of football's more presentable ambassadors in a career which has been remarkably free of controversy, is due to link up with the national squad next Sunday in preparation for the game against the Czech Republic three days later.
Steve Double, an FA spokesman, confirmed that they may ask Chelsea for camera footage of the incident, but a club spokesman has warned that such coverage is restricted.
Meanwhile Sammy McIlroy, the newly-appointed Northern Ireland manager, has honoured his pledge to start with a clean sheet for everybody in his first squad selection for next Wednesday's World Cup warm-up game in Luxembourg.
This means a recall for the veteran Ipswich midfielder, Jim Magilton and Sheffield Wednesday's Danny Sonner, both of whom were largely ignored by McIlroy's predecessor, Lawrie McMenemy.
Almost certainly, there would also have been a recall for Gerry Taggart, another of the players left out in the cold by McMenemy, had he not been involved in Leicester City's preparations for the Worthington Cup final against Tranmere Rovers on February 27th. Also missing for the same reason is Neil Lennon.
The exclusion of Iain Dowie, who captained the team on occasions last season, may well mark the end of a distinguished international career stretching back to 1990. Dowie loses out to the Manchester United reserve, David Healy. Healy, who has scored four goals in eight Under-21 appearances, has been called up to the senior squad for the first time.
Wigan's highly-rated goalkeeper Roy Carroll is another graduate to the full squad from the Under-21s, while McIlroy has also selected Carroll's club-mate Pat McGibbon and the uncapped Colin Murdock of Preston.
Northern Ireland (squad to play Luxembourg away on February 23rd): M Taylor (Fulham), R Carroll (Wigan), A Hughes (Newcastle), M Williams (Watford), D Griffin (St Johnstone), I Nolan (Sheffield Wednesday), C Murdock (Preston), P McGibbon (Wigan), K Horlock (Manchester City), K Gillespie (Blackburn), D Johnson (Blackburn), M Hughes (Wimbledon), J Magilton (Ipswich), J Whitley (Manchester City), D Sonner (Sheffield Wednesday), S Lomas (West Ham), J Quinn (West Brom), A Coote (Norwich), D Healy (Manchester United), S Robinson (Bournemouth).
