Coláiste Na Sceilge fell a goal behind in the opening minute, when Martin McMahon was fouled for a penalty, which he converted. Leading 0-9 to 1-0 at the interval, goals from Paddy Curran, and another Kevin O'Leary sealed victory.

Full forward Mark Gorman produced an exhibition of scoring for the winners when he ran up 2-5 after the break.
With Eamon Condon and Padraic Lynch scoring four points apiece, the holders led 0-8 to 1-2 at half-time
