MOTORSPORT:Dan Daly is the driving force in the revival of Formula Libre (ie free of technical restrictions) which is putting the excitement of powerful racing cars back into Irish motor racing, as in the halcyon era of Formula 5000 and other super fast machinery.
The Dunshaughlin driver is gearing his car to clock speeds in excess of 170mph at Phoenix Park (August 11th-12th), but this Sunday on the slower Mondello Park circuit he will use the awesome acceleration power of the 3.5-litre Australian Holden engine and the Reynard's equally effective brakes to maximum advantage in the two Formula Libre feature races.
Daly won the championship last year and leads the FL class on 81 points, but the overall and under 2.0-litre leader is James Lyons in a Formula Ireland car on 102 points. Alan Kessie and Séamus Ryan are joint third on 51 points each.
