Bohemians 1 Derry City 2:TWO GOALS inside 10 second-half minutes gave Derry a smash-and-grab win at Dalymount as Bohemians were left seething with the match officials.
Though they were much the better side, the game turned against Bohemians 66 minutes in, when Derry took the lead.
Bohemians were down a man, as debutant Philip McCabe had just gone off injured and they were waiting to bring on substitute Michael Barker.
But Derry’s Dermot McCaffrey whipped the free into the near post where Stephen McLaughlin arrived unmarked to head home.
Bohemians manager Aaron Callaghan protested with fourth official Darren Carey on the touchline and was sent to the stand by referee Rob Rogers.
The home side were further incensed 10 minutes later when skipper Evan McMillan was booked for apparently pushing in the box in giving away a penalty which Paddy McEleney shot home.
Bohemians continued to battle away and Keith Ward gave them some reward, curling home a free-kick five minutes into stoppage time.
President Michael D Higgins and Republic of Ireland players James McClean, Keith Fahey and David Forde were in attendance but may not have been encouraged by a dour first half in the inclement May weather.
Bohemians took the game to a leggy looking Derry side playing their third game in seven days.
Bohemians dominated play but failed to take advantage of the openings created.
