Bray Wanderers 2 Sligo Rovers 0:Goals in each half from skipper Clive Delaney and striker Andrei Georgescu enabled Bray Wanderers to record a much-needed and deserved first victory in seven Premier Division games at the Carlisle Grounds last night.
The home side never looked back after a corner on the left after 13 minutes was splendidly hooked home by central defender Delaney.
The Connacht men did go close to an equaliser when midfielder Chris Turner put his effort just over the bar after a Keith Foy free on the left. Then keeper Steve Williams came to Bray's rescue when pushing over Raphael Cretaro's header from 10 yards after a corner by Turner on the left.
With the strong wind making the contest something of a lottery, Bray grabbed a second goal on the hour when a curling right-foot shot by winger Gary McCabe from 22 yards rebounded off the crossbar. Romanian striker Georgescu made no mistake with the rebound, shooting past the stranded Richard Brush from close range.
Sligo had appeals for a penalty turned down on 78 minutes when Cretaro's effort appeared to be handled by a Bray defender after Foy had opened up the home defence.
Bray should have had a third late on; substitute John Broderick had a shot blocked when a pass to the unmarked Stephen Fox might have paid greater dividends.
