Dr McKenna Cup/ Down 5-14 Donegal 0-13: Down shook off the Portuguese cobwebs with fast, open and attacking football and five goals from them in this entertaining game in Páirc Esler, Newry last night kept the home fans well entertained.

They had Donegal on the rack for most of the game and went in at the break with a commanding lead (3-7 to 0-7) thanks to goals from Jackie Lynch and John McAreavey (two).

Within three minutes of the restart Down were reduced to 14 players when centre-half forward Kevin McKernan received a second yellow card followed by a red.

However, Donegal's fate was sealedwhen centre-half back Eamon McGee received a straight red card as well as two late goals from Down subs Packie Downey and Danny Hughes.
