Connacht League:Ja Fallon, who stepped down as a Galway selector last year to resume his playing career, gave a glimpse of what he might produce in 2007 as he steered Galway to victory at Tuam Stadium.
The strong swirling wind during the game resulted in Galway shooting 19 wides.
Leitrim had the wind at their backs in the opening half, but did not made it count. Nicky Joyce and Joe Bergin found the posts before Leitrim opened their account after 22 minutes through James Glancy.
Derek Savage increased Galway's lead, but Leitrim made it 0-3 each before the break through Ciarán Duignan and Michael Duignan.
Galway went 21 minutes in the second half before they took the lead through Cormac Bane and Bergin restored their lead after 59 minutes following Ciarán Duignan's equalising point for Leitrim.
Fallon kicked the point of the match to double Galway's lead with five minutes left and Bane ensured the win after Leitrim corner back Ciarán Kennedy had been dismissed.
