Hurling / Walsh Cup / Quarter-finals / UCD 1-13 Westmeath 1-11: It took 10 minutes of extra-time to separate UCD and the hosts in an entertaining match in Cusack Park, Mullingar, yesterday.

The students had to rely on a Brendan Murphy point late on after Barry Kennedy's goal had given Westmeath the lead nine minutes from full-time.

Despite the best efforts of Conor Jordan, John Paul Murray and Darren McCormack, Westmeath were under pressure and trailed by five points at the break, 0-8 to 0-3.

They increased the tempo on the change of ends and Kennedy's goal eventually brought the sides level. Two minutes into additional time, UCD's Tommy Fitzgerald stole in for the simplest of goals and the students held on for a merited win.
