Rep of Ireland SP...1 Wales SP...4: Ireland's promise following their win over England in the opening game petered out to abject disappointment as Hugh Davey's brilliant lead goal was to count for nothing at Inverurie as they slumped to a second successive defeat.

The Irish collapse in the last half hour gave the Welsh the biggest win of the week and with it the title as hosts Scotland lost 3-1 to England at Banff.

Davey struck his wonder goal a minute into the second half. A John Lester corner was partially cleared to the UCD left-back who controlled the ball on his chest before finding the top corner of the Welsh net with a terrific half volley from all of 35 yards.

A soft goal from a free-kick allowed Wales back into the match as Graham Evans was left unmarked to flick past Neil Gallagher.

Deflated by that concession, Ireland seem to wilt as Chris Todd side-footed home on 71 minutes to give Wales the lead. Chris Giles then rowed in with two more goals to kill off a jaded Irish side.
