Just looking through the football divisions after the weekend:
Division One: Galway are the only unbeaten team in the top flight and are at the summit with seven points. Donegal and Dublin are joint second both with six points while Kerry are next with four. However, it’s looking ropey for Derry at the bottom - Paddy Tally’s side only have one point after four games. Derry play Donegal next, defeat there would leave them facing a real battle to survive in Division One. Tyrone (2pts), Mayo (3pts), Armagh (3pts) are dangling over the relegation trapdoor too.
Division Two: Meath’s win over Roscommon has really opened the race for promotion. A win for Roscommon would have left them sitting comfortably at the top and with a cushion to third place. Instead Roscommon, Monaghan, Meath are joint top with six points. Cork, Louth, Cavan are all on four points while Down have two. Westmeath have yet to pick up any points and sit bottom with zero - they will do well to avoid the drop at this stage.
Division Three: Kildare’s immediate return to Division Two remains on track - they are top of the table with eight points after four consecutive victories. At the other end of the Division Three table, Leitrim and Sligo are in danger of getting cut adrift. Leitrim have lost all four of their games so far, while Sligo have lost all three of their outings.
Division Four: The postponed Wexford-Wicklow games means the top of the table remains very congested. Wexford are sin first with six points and are still favourites for promotion. Limerick and Tipperary are just behind with five points, but both have any extra game played. London have picked up two wins so far and sit midtable while Waterford are bottom after four defeats.
Shane Walsh was once again a difference-maker today.
Plenty of drama across the country today, we’ll have lots more reaction and details @irishtimes.com throughout the evening and in tomorrow’s newspaper. And we’ll be adding match reports and updates here on our blog too. First up is a wrap of Division Three in the football league.

FULL-TIME: Galway 0-21 Donegal 0-14
Victory for Galway
69mins: Galway 0-21 Donegal 0-14
Donegal are going to run out of time, Galway will hold on for victory in Salthill.
Donegal are probably going to need a goal at this stage. They are not making hay with their extra men as of yet.
67mins: Galway 0-21 Donegal 0-13
Galway are down to 13 men, black card for Finian Ó Laoi. Nine point game.
63mins: Galway 0-20 Donegal 0-11
60mins: Galway 0-19 Donegal 0-11
A two pointer from Peadar Mogan.
Donegal’s shooting has not been as clinical with the wind so far in this half as Galway were in the first half. Donegal have now hit seven wides. Galway defending well but they are down to 14 men so tiredness may become a factor coming down the straight. Donegal need to get the scoreboard moving again. They trail by ten with 59 minutes gone.
58mins: Galway 0-19 Donegal 0-9
Donegal need to start moving the scoreboard more frequently. 52 minutes gone, Galway 0-19 Donegal 0-6.
13 points now.....
15 points now......
Second half has started in Salthill.
Donegal plus wind v Galway minus Matthew Tierney.
The gap is 16 points. It will fall. But by how much?
FULL-TIME: Meath 2-18 Roscommon 0-17
That feels like a major step forward by Meath. There is some good momentum behind Robbie Brennan’s tenure now.
HALF-TIME: Galway 0-17 Donegal 0-1
Matthew Tierney was sent off just before the break after a clash with Hugh McFadden. Galway lead by 16 points but they will be down to 14 men and be playing against a wild wind in the second half.
Four minutes of normal time remaining at Páirc Tailteann: Meath 2-18 Roscommon 0-17
Donegal have scored, Conor O’Donnell with a close range free.
Galway 0-17 Donegal 0-1.
This could be a 20 point wind!!!!! Wonder what Galway feel is par and what they will need to be leading by going in at the break?
Update from Salthill: Wind 0-17 Donegal 0-0
Could be another significant result in Division Two on the way as Meath lead Roscommon 2-16 to 0-16 after 59 minutes.
FULL-TIME: Louth 2-17 Down 0-22
That is a super result for Louth, really big win in terms of the division. The gap between promotion and relegation is so tight in Division Two.
Ah lads, the wind in Salthill!!!!
Donegal had a shot on goal but the wind blew the ball back out the field.
Galway lead 0-11 to no score after 20 minutes but conditions are horrendous.
Galway lead 0-8 to no score after 15 minutes. All of Galway’s scores have come from two-pointers, a pair of those kicked by Shane Walsh. The wind is driving towards Donegal, they’ll struggle for scores in the first half. Galway need to build up as wide a gap as possible.
Meath have hit the front in Navan against Roscommon. Robbie Brennan’s side have bagged a brace of goals in the early stages of the second half, 2-9 to 0-14.
FULL-TIME: Fermanagh 1-13 Offaly 3-6
Offaly suffer their first real blip of the campaign. Good win for Fermanagh though.
The late throw-in has just started in Salthill as Galway host Donegal. It’s fair to say the conditions look absolutely brutal. Driving wind and rain. Still, it hasn’t prevented Shane Walsh from kicking his latest two-pointer of this league campaign. Galway lead 0-2 to no score.
FULL-TIME: Cavan 1-22 Westmeath 0-21.
Quite the second-half comeback by Cavan. Westmeath led 0-17 to 0-5 at half-time.
Mike Solan gets his first win as Longford senior football manager as they beat Waterford in Division Four.
Here is the third of David Clifford’s goals as he completes his hat-trick. Good comeback win for Kerry over Tyrone in Pomeroy.
Roscommon lead Meath 0-12 to 0-8 at half-time in their Division Two FL clash in Navan. Meath will have the benefit of the breeze in the second half.
FULL-TIME: Kerry 3-13 Tyrone 2-13
Who would have guessed, these new rules might suit David Clifford!!!!
ANOTHER GOAL IN POMEROY - ANOTHER GOAL BY CLIFFORD, HIS HAT-TRICK.
FULL-TIME: Wexford 1-23 Clare 1-17
Important win for Wexford.
FULL-TIME: Waterford 2-23 Antrim 0-11
Very easy for Waterford in Corrigan Park.
Roscommon leading by the minimum in Navan against Meath, 0-8 to 0-7 after 24 minutes.
Cian Byrne has been sent off in Ennis. Huge moment. Wexford lead by six points with three minutes of normal time remaining. Gives Clare a glimpse of staging a comeback but time is against them.
Down lead Louth 0-13 to 1-8 at half-time in their Division Two FL fixture. Could be a significant day in that division.
The big wind swing is blowing in Mullingar. Westmeath led 0-17 to 0-5 at half-time but after just 13 minutes of the second half Cavan are reeling in the home side. It’s now a four point game, 0-19 to 0-15. And Westmeath are down to 14 men.
Meanwhile, in Ennis, Wexford are 1-19 to 1-14 ahead of All-Ireland and League champions Clare after 55 minutes.
ANOTHER GOAL in Pomeroy - Tyrone 2-13 Kerry 2-8.
Mark Bradley has a penalty saved by Shane Ryan but the Tyrone forward was able to tap home the rebound to give the home side a five point lead.
ANOTHER GOAL in Pomeroy - we’d mentioned David Clifford appeared to be closing in on a second green flag score and so it has come to pass. The Kerry forward has scored his and Kerry’s second, 1-13 to 2-6.
GOAL in Pomeroy - Darragh Canavan. Tyrone lead 1-12 to 1-6 after 45 minutes. Huge moment to halt Kerry’s momentum.
Tyrone lead Kerry 0-12 to 1-6 after 44 minutes but David Clifford looks to be getting close to scoring a second goal. Niall Morgan pulled off a good save shortly after half-time while Clifford also hit the woodwork. Tyrone holding a three-point lead for now.
Fermanagh lead Offaly 1-9 to 1-1 in their Division Three FL clash in Ederney.
In Division Four, Longford lead Waterford 2-6 to 1-6.
HALF-TIME: Westmeath 0-17 Cavan 0-5
Westmeath have been reduced to 14 men following Jack Geoghegan’s sending off towards the end of the first half. Cavan will have a strong wind at their back in the second half as well, but it is a sizeable gap.
Davy Fitzgerald must be scratching his head at what is another substandard display by his Antrim team. He called for a response after their hammering at the hands of Offaly in Tullamore last time out, but it hasn’t worked. Waterford led 2-14 to 0-4 at half-time in Corrigan Park. It’s currently 2-15 to 0-8 after 45 minutes.
Westmeath now lead Cavan 0-17 to 0-3 after half an hour. Is that a 14-point wind at Westmeath’s back? Cavan will need to make it count after the break.
HALF-TIME: Tyrone 0-11 Kerry 1-5
David Clifford scored a goal late in the half. Neat finish.
HALF-TIME: Wexford 0-15 Clare 1-9
Lee Chin pops over his second score of the game in the closing moments of the first half. Wexford lead Clare 0-14 to 1-9 with a minute or so left to play in the half.
Darragh Canavan has come off the bench for Tyrone and is kicking points for fun already - taking his club form and bringing it to the county scene to help the home side push ahead to lead 0-11 to 0-5 after half an hour. Tyrone have really turned this one around after a sluggish start.
That’s a real relegation four-pointer between Westmeath and Cavan. Dropping to Division Three would be a setback. Difficult day for Westmeath manager Dermot McCabe, as outlined here by Malachy Clerkin.
Some start by Westmeath against Cavan - Dermot McCabe’s side lead 0-12 to 0-1 after 16 minutes. Wind, surely????
Level after 23 minutes between Clare and Wexford, 1-6 to 0-9. Tony Kelly put Clare ahead with an early goal but Wexford - who have Lee Chin back - have restored parity.
Weather updates courtesy of Offaly GAA.
It’s about to get busy in various grounds now as games throw in.
Breaking news from Navan - the father couldn’t get a spot in the car park outside Páirc Tailteann. Either Roscommon have come in numbers or the Royals sense some green shoots.
That’s better - a lovely two-pointer by Michael McKernan has opened Tyrone’s account. Kerry lead 0-4 to 0-2.
Kerry leading 0-4 to no score after ten minutes. Decent start for the Kingdom, Tyrone need to get motoring.
It’s picturesque in Pomeroy. David Clifford opens the scoring to give Kerry an early lead.
The Canavan brothers are back!!!!
A number of changes to the Tyrone team - the big news is that the Errigal Ciarán crew are back in the squad; Ruairí Canavan, Darragh Canavan and Peter Harte are among the subs. Mattie Donnelly and Michael O’Neill start in place of Kieran McGeary and Seanie O’Donnell.
We will have updates from across the country throughout the afternoon. Tyrone and Kerry will begin at 1.45. How many players would Kerry need to beat Tyrone? 14? 13? 12....now we’ve a game!!!!
Malachy Clerkin was at Croke Park for us to watch Dessie Farrell’s Dubs beat Derry. It has been a tricky start for Paddy Tally in Derry.
There was plenty of action last night though - with some significant results for the Tipp and Offaly hurlers while in football there were good wins for Dublin, Monaghan, Kildare, and Antrim. London also got in on the act.
Good afternoon and thanks for joining us today as we track all the GAA action across the country – or what’s left of it!
