Dublin defender Jonny Cooper has thanked fans for messages of support today after he was hospitalised following an assualt in the city centre early this morning.

Cooper was released from hospital this afternoon after he was reportedly the subject of a “knife attack”.

The Na Fianna clubman was involved in an incident on Dorset Street Upper at 5.30am this morning.

He was taken to Mater Hospital where he underwent treatment before being discharged.

Gardai from Pearse Street station are investigating the matter.

Cooper tweeted this afternoon: “Absolutely Humbled by the msgs & calls over last few hours! Thank you all! I have an amazing group of friends and family.”

The ‘Hill 16’ facebook page described the incident involving the 24-year-old as a “knife attack”, while Na Fianna said their player was recovering after an “unprovoked assault and robbery”.
