Wexford SFC Final
St Anne’s 1-6 Gusserane 0-8
David Fogarty’s final kick three minutes into injury hurtled straight between the posts giving St Anne’s a marvellous victory over Gusserane in this Wexford senior football championship final played at Wexford Park yesterday afternoon.
Fogarty held his nerve to steer over the winning point, when it looked as if the sides were heading for a draw.
Approaching the break it was a Sean Gaul pointed free after Red Barry had been fouled that left the minimum, 0-3 to 0-2, separating the sides at the interval.
After Cillian Kehoe had extended his sides led within three minutes of the restart, St Anne's responded with points from Gaul and David Fogarty, to level the sides, 0-4 each, just 37 minutes into the game. The only goal of the game arrived one minute later when Gaul got on the end of a penetrating move that prised open the Gusserane defence to clinically finish to the net, giving St Anne's the lead for the first time, 1-4 to 0-4.
Gusserane battled back to level the game with four minutes remaining. But it was St Anne's who kept driving forward with Fogarty kicking over the winning point.
