Round one of the qualifiers for the 2021 All-Ireland senior hurling championship will see two heavyweights go head-to-head as Wexford meet Clare while Waterford face Laois in the other match.

Both fixtures will take place on Saturday July 17th. Clare v Wexford throws in at Semple Stadium at 1.30pm, while Laois against Waterford is a 2pm start at Nowlan Park.

With one of the beaten Leinster semi-finalists and one of the beaten Munster semi-finalists getting a bye to round two it was Galway and Cork who got the luck of the draw and will have an extra week of rest before going back into action in round two.

Following their thrilling loss to Kilkenny in the Leinster semi-finals, Davy Fitzgerald’s Wexford will face a tough task in Clare who were beaten by Tipperary in their Munster semi-final.

The first round is expected to take place this Saturday with times and dates confirmed later in the week after a meeting of the GAA’s CCCC. The draw for round two will take place on Monday July 19th.
