Tyrone GAA have made history by electing the association's first ever woman county chair.

Roisin Jordan, a member of the Eglish club, has landed the top job in the county in a ground-breaking move after being elected unopposed following the withdrawal of fellow candidates Donal Magee and Eugene McConnell.

Jordan, a former secretary at Eglish, has been involved at county board level for the past decade including serving the last five years as vice-chair, and she will take over from Ciaran McLaughlin who is stepping down after a five year term.

Jordan praised Tyrone GAA for her historic appointment, she said: “I am delighted and I am honoured to have been elected as the new chair person of Tyrone.

“Tyrone is leading again. It’s great, it’s great for the association and it’s opening the way maybe for other women.

“I am looking forward to the challenge. And their probably will be plenty of challenges, but we’ll take everything as it comes. We’ll take our time and we’ll work through all decisions and hopefully come out the other end and do well.”

Jordan also said how she hoped to return Tyrone to winning ways on the pitch, she said: “I’m definitely in favour of the good times returning. The lad’s transition is nearly complete so I’d like to see them producing on the field.

“We need everybody involved and we need every code, I’m eager to work with all codes and meet with them all.

“(Tyrone) are a progressive county, let’s hope that as we go along things start falling into place and we start winning in seniors, and Under 21s and back to the minors. We want to try and get as much silverware on the table as possible.

“I really am looking forward to it, the first game, and hopefully from that onwards we’ll be winning the whole way.”
