RACING: Plans for Rock Of Gibraltar's next race are undecided, with the colt far from certain to appear in next week's Darley July Cup.

The dual-Guineas winner was installed a 5 to 2 favourite for the six furlong Group One sprint after his success in Royal Ascot's St James's Palace Stakes.

Afterwards, the Coolmore supremo John Magnier declared the Newmarket highlight was a possible option for Rock Of Gibraltar.

The July Cup has been a happy hunting ground for Aidan O'Brien in recent years, with both Stravinsky and Mozart victorious.

However, O'Brien said yesterday: "We will decide later this week about Newmarket but Rock Of Gibraltar is not a certain runner at this stage. He is on a little break at the moment."

Rock Of Gibraltar is on the verge of equalling Mill Reef's tally of six consecutive Group One victories in a row, a record since the pattern was introduced in 1971.

Another Ballydoyle star currently on a break is Johannesburg but no decision has been taken as to whether or not the Breeders' Cup winner will be retired after his Royal Ascot disappointment.

In the meantime, O'Brien reported the Guineas and Derby runner-up, Hawk Wing, on course for Saturday's Eclipse at Sandown.

"It's so far so good with Hawk Wing but we haven't decided yet who else we will run in the race," he said.

The Ballydoyle trainer has six of the 14 entries left in the Eclipse, including Sunday's Irish Derby runner-up Sholokhov and Bach, who was Eclipse-placed last year.

John Egan faces an uncertain future when he appears before the British Jockey Club licensing committee this morning.

The Galway-born rider was called to the hearing in light of developments yesterday which saw the Hong Kong Jockey Club urge the jockey to return to the former British colony to answer allegations that he accepted favours in return for racing information.
