Men's Hockey Round-upGlenanne certainly made the most of the post-Christmas weekend, following up their win over Corinthians in the league on Saturday with a winning goal in the dying minutes against Monkstown yesterday in the Leinster Senior Cup.
Eddie O'Malley's late strike from play put Glenanne through after a series of missed short corners in a strong first half allowed Monsktown back into a lively game.
Elsewhere in the cup Three Rock Rovers beat YMCA 4-2, Peter McConnell hitting two with Michael Yates and Christian Judd adding one each, while Railway Union also finished off a satisfying weekend with a 5-1 win over Suttonians, Teddy Lynch and Brendan Parsons hitting two each there.
Trinity, proving to be one of the more dangerous sides in the division, knocked three past Naas, Peter and John Blakeney and Phelie Maguire netting one each with one in reply from Luke Connolly.
Avoca slipped out with Norman Hipwell's last shot of the match for visitors Weston giving them a 2-1 win, while Pembroke, perhaps still smarting from Saturday's shock league defeat, hammered 11 goals past St James Gate, Alan Southern netting five.
Pembroke's only consolation about dropping league points to Aer Lingus is that second-placed Corinthians also lost to Glenanne on Saturday. It was Pembroke's first league defeat of the season in 11 matches but they are still four points clear at the top of the Leinster table.
Adrian Sweeney put Aer Lingus in front before Pembroke striker, Justin Sherriff, levelled the scores a couple of minutes later. Brian Gray hit the winner for the home side just short of the hour following an Aer Lingus short corner.
