Wexford 2-16 UCD 1-13: TWO FIRST-HALF goals proved decisive as Wexford recorded a comfortable six-point victory at Gorey yesterday afternoon.

With Diarmuid Lyng accurate from placed balls, Wexford cruised into a 1-3 to 0-0 lead inside seven minutes, the early goal coming from Stephen Banville.

Wexford player Peter Atkinson opened UCD’s account with a free but Lyng continued to point placed balls while Jim Berry finished a Lyng free to the net on 18 minutes. Atkinson and Joe Boland added points for UCD who trailed 2-9 to 0-6 at the interval.

UCD improved in a feisty second half but Lyng, Banville and Darren Nolan replied with points. UCD’s response brought points from Atkinson, Liam Rushe (two) and Colm Gleeson. Wexford had Darren Stamp sent off on a second yellow but sub Cian Waldron’s late goal failed to save the students.
