Retief Goosen and Richard Green go into the weekend of the Commercialbank Qatar Masters with a two-shot lead after both carded impressive rounds today.
World number eight Goosen has looked in fine fettle over the two rounds and he added to yesterday's superb 65 with a four-under-par 68 to lie 11-under.
The South African continued where he had left off by carding four birdies on his outward nine and his score could have been much better but for a less impressive run coming home where he dropped a shot and made just one birdie.
Green, meanwhile, enjoyed a faultless round whilst carding seven birdies and is two shots clear of compatriot Nick O'Hern, whose six birdies and just two bogeys means he is nine under going into the third round.
Miguel Angel Jimenez, who teed off in the late morning, was expected to challenge the leaders but the Spaniard disappointed on the front nine, carding bogeys on the second and fifth and just one birdie on the ninth. But he improved coming home and three birdies ensured he finished eight under.
Defending champion Henrik Stenson enjoyed a good round and looks well placed for a shot at defending his title as he joins Jimenez at eight under. The Swede dropped just one shot while making five birdies.
Last week's Abu Dhabi Golf Championship winner Paul Casey failed to carry his good display on Sunday through to this tournament as he could only make par yesterday and finished one worse today with a one-over-par 73.
Ernie Els was well below his best at the Doha Golf Club as he could only manage a one-under-par 71. The South African carded a double bogey on the 12th and though he recovered to make five birdies after that, two bogeys on the seventh and ninth, his 16th and 18th, meant he finished on four under overall.
And Ryder up star Darren Clarke endured another disappointing round in which he managed just two birdies. Four bogeys and a double bogey on the fifth meant he carded a four over 76 for a seven-over-par 151 overall and does not make the cut for the weekend.
Paul McGinley, meanwhile, made an indifferent start to the day as he carded a par 36 on the front nine but made four birdies coming home to move on to five under.
