Gort CS made history when they won their first Connacht Colleges' senior A hurling title by defeating St Mary's, Galway at Kenny Park, Athenry yesterday.

The victors started briskly and led 0-6 0-2 at half-time. Gort CS made a great start to the second half with three points in the first two minutes through Shane Coen, Tommy Lee and team captain Daniel Fitzsimon.

St Mary's reduced the leeway after 43 minutes with a goal by Tony Regan, but despite the efforts of Regan and Richard Devanney, Gort CS stayed on top.
