IMAGINE if Glenn Hoddle hired a Scottish folk singer (who was once a speedway rider, a dustman, a down-and-out and a TV presenter), whose autobiography goes by the intriguing name of Twisted Knickers and Stolen Scones, to motivate his players ahead of a crucial international. Wouldn't we think he was just a tad loopy? So, what does that make Kevin Keegan, who brought in 63-year-old Watt Nicol to get the lads in the mood for their game against Poland last week? "Alan Shearer was laughing through the session - that was good to see because he obviously views laughter as a release," revealed Watt after his motivational session with the players. Or maybe, after finally escaping the clutches of Eileen Drewery, Shearer just didn't know whether to laugh - but opted for laughter in the end. You couldn't make this stuff up.
