Johnnie Walker Classic:Anton Haig won a three-way play-off to clinch the Johnnie Walker Classic in Phuket, edging out fellow South African Richard Sterne and England's Oliver Wilson in a thrilling climax at the Blue Canyon County Club.
Haig birdied the last with a six-foot putt and watched as both Wilson and Sterne missed chances on the final green as the trio completed 36 holes level at 13 under par, one shot clear of Retief Goosen.
Wilson missed a long 20-foot putt, while Sterne, who said earlier in the week he expected to miss the cut following a round of 75 in the opening round, had a slightly easier chance from six feet but also misjudged and the three trio headed back up the 18th.
Wilson and Sterne both then missed their third shots at the 403-yard par four — Sterne agonisingly watched as his eight-foot putt caught the edge of the hole but stayed out — to allow Haig to land the #208,330 first prize and claim his first victory on the European Tour.
Sterne said: "I played my best but it didn't go the way I wanted to go. It's great for Anton. I'm disappointed but I did my best. It's been a good week, it shows anything can happen in golf."
Colin Montgomerie finished tied for sixth at eight under, England's Simon Hurd was a further two shots back and Graeme Storm, who carded a two-over-par final round, finished tied for 16th at five under.
It was bad news for Ireland's golfers with Damien McGrane finishing on 3 under and Graeme McDowell ending on two-over.
