Camogie/ National league: Two goals from Michelle Hearn in either half ensured that Wexford got Division One A of the league off to a great start on Saturday with a rare 2-4 to 0-9 victory over All-Ireland senior champions Cork at Piercestown.
The Jim Kielty-trained Wexford side held a slender 1-1 to 0-3 interval lead and - although Cork goalkeeper Aoife Murray gave an excellent second-half performance and Jennifer O'Leary helped to execute a comeback from the Rebels, with four second half points - a late save by home goalkeeper Margaret Darcy ensured a Wexford victory.
Meanwhile, despite the absence of their Freshford players, Kilkenny were still strong enough to overcome a resilient Dublin challenge to register a three-point win at Piltown - 1-8 to 1-5.
Dublin had led by a point at the interval, with Ciara Durkin claiming a 20th-minute goal, but the free-taking accuracy of Marie Dargan ensured the home side held out for victory.
Tipperary were always in control against Galway at the Ragg yesterday, with Eimear McDonnell finding the net in each half to ensure a 2-13 to 0-7 win.
In Division One B, Cork made up for the disappointment of their A encounter by snatching a 2-6 to 2-5 win over Wexford with a 45th-minute goal from Hazel O'Regan the decisive score. Kilkenny recorded a firm 5-11 to 2-8 win over Dublin. Although Siobhan Ryan scored 3-5 for Tipperary, this wasn't enough as Galway registered a 5-11 to 4-8 win at the Ragg.
