Sigerson Cup quarter-finals/Sligo IT 1-13; NUI Galway 1-8: Reigning champions NUI Galway crashed out of the Sigerson Cup at Dangan yesterday as their star-studded visitors from Sligo cruised into the last four.

The result was beyond doubt long before the end and the physically stronger winners led by 1-12 to 0-6 three minutes from the end of normal time.

NUI Galway, missing the injured Michael Meehan, did manage to gloss the scoreline with a late Colm McFadden goal.

Donegal's Christy Toye palmed Sligo's goal on 39 minutes while Galway's Nicky Joyce nailed five excellent scores. Monaghan's Paul Finlay was accurate from frees and contributed five points for Sligo.
