Under-19/ Wales U-19 31 Ireland U-19 9: The Irish youngsters were unable to pick up where their senior and Under-20 counterparts had finished off against Welsh opposition two weeks ago and were overshadowed in the second half at Stradey Park in Llanelli.
Indiscipline cost the Welsh dear in the first half and they found themselves being put through the mincer in the forwards as the Irish dominated.
Three penalties from the boot of UCD outhalf Eoin McCabe were no less than the Irish deserved for their well-organised defence and opportunism.
While the home side struggled to put their phases together, the Irish were fluent and so dominant that Wales spent but a few minutes in opposition territory all half and had Ryan Bevington sent to the sin-bin.
The Irish stranglehold on the game in the first half was built around a strong set piece, competitive lineout and highly effective break-down game. It was all going swimmingly for the first 40 minutes, but then came the home backlash.
If there was considerable frustration among the home fans in the first half, they at least got something to cheer shortly after the break when fullback Dan Evans was worked clear to score the first of his two tries in the right-hand corner to launch a 31-unanswered points onslaught.
Leigh Halfpenny added the touchline conversion to narrow the gap to two points and all of a sudden there was a different complexion on proceedings.
Number eight Sam Warburton paved the way for Wales' second try five minutes later with a strong drive which allowed James Egan to cross.
Evans added his second after 69 minutes, and the Irish demise was complete when skipper Ryan was yellow carded five minutes from time.
