COLLEGES GAA: Despite dominating most of the second half in yesterday's Harty Cup game at New Inn, Waterford City side De La Salle failed to reach the semi-final stage of the Munster Colleges Senior Hurling Championship when they were edged out by St Flannan's.
De La Salle drew first blood after five minutes, thanks to a well-struck Michael Power point, but Ken Kennedy levelled matters moments later, before De La Salle hit two further points.
Despite hitting eight wides before the break, Flannan's still managed to get back on track and lead by 0-5 to 0-4 at the interval.
But in the second half, the Waterford college began to dominate midfield and five unanswered points turned a one-point deficit into a four-point lead.
However, with just 10 minutes remaining, the Clare side grabbed their first score of the second half, a fortuitous goal. Kennedy caught a Shane O'Brien delivery and buried it from close range.
John Cusack and Jonathan Clancy put Flannan's in front, but a massive free by Tommy Power squared the game once again.
This deadlock was eventually broken two minutes from time, after corner forward Ger Arthur was fowled. Kenneth Kennedy proved the hero, taking victory with a free strike from 25 metres.
