Martina Hingis admitted on Tuesday that she had eased up too much after becoming world number one but would not let it happen again if she reclaims top spot.
Sounding like an ageing pro, the 18-year-old says she is determined to get to the top of the women's rankings this year after losing number one spot to American Lindsay Davenport last October. Hingis spent 80 weeks at number one. Losing the top ranking has taught Hingis not to take things as easy as in the past.
"I was not practising that hard as I was supposed to, but there were also difficult situations for me, handling sponsor appearances and media obligations. It's just so different being number one at 16," she mewed.
Sounds like a girl living her live twice as fast as most people. But what's new in women's tennis?
