Longford 1-14 Leitrim 0-10:Longford came from behind to beat Leitrim in difficult, wet conditions at Pearse Park yesterday. A fisted goal from Brian Kavanagh midway through the second half proved the turning point as it left Longford leading 1-10 to 0-8.
Liam Keenan also shot over the bar in the closing stages. Pádraig Berry was also in excellent form for Luke Dempsey's side, while Kavanagh scored 1-2 in the space of three minutes after the break.
Leitrim, with 19 minutes gone, had raced into a 0-6 to 0-1 lead with points from Michael Foley (2), Ciarán Duignan (2), Michael Duignan and James Glancy. However, by half-time, Longford had narrowed the gap to two points, 0-7 to 0-5. With the wind in the second half, Longford outscored Leitrim 1-9 to 0-3.
