Longford Town 1 Waterford Utd 0:Longford Town moved off the bottom of the Premier division table with their first win of the season against fellow strugglers Waterford.
However, Town had to do it the hard way, playing the majority of the second half with 10 men, Daire Doyle receiving a second yellow card from referee Declan Hanney.
Dave Mooney got the only goal of the game in the 24th minute and what a goal it was. Doyle played the ball to Robbie Martin who in turn laid the ball off to Mooney and he fired a brilliant shot past Waterford keeper Dean Delaney.
Mooney's goal was the bright spark in a somewhat dour and lifeless first half where both sides created very little in the way of chances.
The visitors had the first attempt on goal, John Hayes flashing his header wide from an Alan Reynolds free kick in the eighth minute. Mooney had a chance to extend Town's lead in the 32nd minute but his cracking volley from the edge of the box went just wide.
For the second week Town were reduced to 10 men in the 61st minute, Daire Doyle seeing red for a second yellow card.
