Under-21 Football Championship: Longford overcame a poor start to upset Kildare at Newbridge on Saturday. Playing with a strong first-half breeze, Kildare, with Padraig O'Neill in excellent form, scored seven of their nine points in 17 minutes to lead 0-7 to 0-1.
Soon afterwards Paddy Dowd put Peter Foy through for Longford's first goal, and points from Dowd and Brian Kavanagh reduced Kildare's advantage to 0-8 to 1-3 at the interval.
When Pauric Berry turned a Kavanagh free-kick into the net, Longford drew level (2-3 to 0-9).
Three points from Francis Magee finished it.
